Christie Brown-Contextual Reference.

Christie Brown’s figurative practice is informed by an interest in our relationship with objects and the significance and relevance of museum collections and archaic artefacts to contemporary art. Archaeology presents a fragmented narrative of past lives and holds parallels with the practice of psychoanalysis where layers are carefully stripped away to reveal hidden information.

Here I was greatly inspired by Brown’s work for my ceramic piece. Her use of organic tones to finish off her work was carried through in mine. The colouring is minimalistic yet the texture is detailed creating a earthy, organic outcome. I used organic tools such as leaves and twigs to create a rough bark-like texture on the surface of my pot just as Christie does so.
